Jingling the Wagon Horses (super size canvas)

"Jingling the Wagon Horses" features Tyler Weatherford and Jim Kingston bringing in the Tongue River Ranch Remuda to the East Camp pens in October of 2015 . I was fortunate to be there at the ranch during the fall gather to collect reference material. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the references in the title, "wagon horses" is a term used to refer to the saddle horses that are used during a large gather where the chuckwagon is taken out and the men camp for the duration of the work at hand."Jingling" is to gathering the herd and bring them in to camp. Each man has multiple horses in his "string" and since they cover a lot of country over a number of days, they generally use one horse in the morning and then take a fresh horse out in the afternoon. After the horses are brought in they are traditionally held in a rope coral where each man calls out the name of the horse they wish to ride and the designated hand, skillfully throws a houlihan loop and, catches that horses from the herd. My previous drawings, "Called Out By Name" and "The Chosen One", were completed using reference photos from that same beautiful day. Tyler Weatherford, the man in front, is riding a young "Pronto", aka "TRR Pepto Yi Yo". This gelding was later very successfully shown in ranch horse competitions and roping by Brazos Roberts, the son of the ranch manager, TJ Roberts and his wife, Kristin. He was sold several years later to a very lucky buyer at the AQHA Best of the Remuda Sale in Fort Worth Texas. I am very excited to announce that this piece has been chosen to be the signature artwork for the 2021 America's Horse in Art show at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as, used as the cover art for the Return to the Remuda sale catalog that year.
