Learning to Travel the Rough Country

“Learning to Travel the Rough Country” is a little 12” by 16” colored pencil featuring a Tongue River Ranch mare and colt that I photographed in 2021. The “71” mare, “TRR Ms Becaco Billie” is a home raised mare and the colt, “TRR Billie Be Tough” is by the ranch’s stud, “CR Tough Be Great”. These colts are born in the open and learn to handle themselves in rough country so they are ready to go when you send them. This colt is a 2 year old now and is vin Kelton Carver’s string. “Slipknot” is on his way to becoming another great gelding from the Tongue River Ranch.
