Cuttin' for the Show Day Workin' for the Dough

“Cuttin’ for the Show Dayworkin’ for the Dough” is a 16” x 16” colored pencil on sanded paper. The original drawing will be available at The America’s Horse in Art exhibit which will be opening August 20th at the beautiful American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum. 

This new work features “Missy Meo”, aka “Missy”. She is a five year old mare by “Once in a Blu Boon” out of “Miss Shazameo”, a ranch raised own daughter of High Brow Hickory. I took the reference photos for the drawing this spring at Thomas Entz’s spring works near Lokeba, Oklahoma. Jared Pierson was there dayworking on this pretty and talented mare. This is what Jared had to say about her…

“Missy is a very special mare to me because she was my first cutting horse to train and take to the NCHA Futurity in 2020 and win my first earnings as an NCHA Open rider. The thing I love most about her is that she gives everything she has everyday and she is extremely cow smart. You never lose a cow in the show pen on her because she’s so smart and gritty. I love to train good cow horses and I love to cowboy. I take my show horses and day work on them in the spring and fall. It’s like a vacation for both of us and really gives my horses a break from the day to day training. It also keeps my horses minds fresh and builds a good work ethic. I think there’s nothing better for my horses than big drives and working cattle outside.”

Wise words from a promising young trainer. I truly believe we will see much more of this talented pair!
