Adrift on the Hard Grass

"Adrift on the Hard Grass" is an original 10" x 18" colored pencil on sanded paper. This colorful gelding, "Drifter", belongs to Landon Sharry. I ran into Landon and "Drifter" when he was day working near Hinton, Oklahoma at Thomas Entz's place for the Spring Works in May of this year . The riders had just finished gathering the second pasture of the day and, while preparations were being made to work this set of calves, the horses were tied along the pens to cool down and wait their turn to drag. It was a beautiful day with a backdrop of blue sky and well managed native grass and I felt fortunate to catch an image of this pretty gelding enjoying a stiff Oklahoma breeze.  

"Drifter" is a product of the Cudd Ranch breeding program. He a six year old by "Tyree Drifter" out of "Hollys Miss Array". Landon raised, broke and trained six year old "Drifter" and has been cowboying on him and is now starting to use him in the roping pen, as well. It was an honor to create work featuring this nice gelding and I hope that you enjoy the view!
