I’ll Be a Doggone Cowboy

‘I’ll Be a Doggone Cowboy…’ is my second piece featuring young Gideon Smith. Gideon hails from Apache, Arizon but I met he and his father Chance when I visited the JO- north of Animas, New Mexico. My first piece featured father and son and was titled “Directions with the Hand but From the Heart”. This young man came with his father to day work for the JO- and Gideon, just like his father, put in a full day. 

In this picture, Gideon was patiently waiting for the crew to sort cows and calves. He is wearing the first pair of chaps that he made himself and using a bit that his great, great grandfather purchased for his son. He had his feet propped up and was singing “I’ll Be a doggone Cowboy” by Marty Robbin’s. I don’t think you can get more cowboy than that! This young man is the real deal and it was truly an honor to meet him and feature him in my work!
