A Kind Eye, Good Bone and a Bottomless Heart (super size canvas)

The original of “A Kind Eye, Good Bone and a Bottomless Heart” is a 16” x 16” colored pencil on sanded paper. This piece features a really nice ranch gelding owned by Dakota Tawater. You couldn’t have ridden with the crew that day and not notice this sharp cow pony. When I ask Dakota about him I learned that this team had been together for a while. He told me he was 13 when he started “Beaver” as a 3 year old. The gentleman that owned him rode him some but Dakota broke and used him most of the time until he was 18 when his owner gave him to Dakota. At 16, this good boned son of the Haythorn stud, Snicklefritz, is still in great shape and earning his keep which speaks well of good breeding and good maintenance. I gathered the reference material for this piece at Thomas Entz’s branding near Hydro, Oklahoma this spring. It was a pleasure to watch this gelding work and I feel fortunate to have been able to use him as a model.
